Simple safety tips

• Plug directly into a wall socket, not an extension lead
• Keep away from water – not for bathrooms
• Don't use if the casing is damaged

Why cheap copies are a risk

Many low-cost “energy saving boxes” sold online have failed basic UK electrical safety standards. Buy genuine WattLock from wattlock.co.uk.

WattLock safety features

• Standard British 3-pin plug – no adaptors
• Fire-resistant casing
• Approved capacitor inside the TrueWatt circuit
• Compact design that doesn't block neighbouring sockets in most double sockets
• Green indicator light so you can see it's working

Everyday plug safety

Treat WattLock like any other plug-in device. Plug it straight into a wall socket rather than an extension lead or adaptor, keep it dry and away from sinks and kettles' steam, don't cover it with furniture or fabric, and never use it if the casing is cracked or damaged. If a socket feels hot, scorches or sparks, stop using that socket and have it checked by a qualified electrician.

Keep spare units out of reach of young children and pets, as you would with any electrical item.

Should I ask an electrician?

You don't need an electrician to fit WattLock – it simply plugs in. However, if your consumer unit is very old, has rewireable fuses, or you've noticed tripping, burning smells or flickering, it's worth having your wiring inspected regardless. Electrical Safety First recommends a check at least every 10 years for owner-occupied homes.
